The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority sets disposal rules for the Town of Essex. Most roofing, renovation and cleanout debris goes in the bin without a problem.
Some items take a different route. Tires, appliances, brush, grass, leaves and clean corrugated cardboard are diverted from landfill to recycling. Radioactive, biomedical and unidentified chemical waste is refused outright.
The Town of Essex joined the first phase of the Green Bin curbside organics program in fall 2025. Food scraps belong in your green bin at the curb. Construction and cleanout debris belongs in our bin.
